Here’s to graduations and the opportunities they offer: for remembering that over time, we can do great things, that we are at our best when we celebrate knowledge, and that after trying times, the clouds will part and a bright future seems possible again. Meet our niece Lily P, who graduated from Fayetteville High School yesterday, headed for New York City and the Fashion Institute of Technology, a longtime dream. To get there, she’ll be working three jobs this summer: as a lifeguard at Mt Sequoia, fashionista at Cheap Thrills, and where she really makes bank- as the proprietor of an online shop where she sells vintage clothing she thrifts from around town. I have the pleasure of watching her next 18 years, knowing her creativity and work ethic will lead her to places I’ve never imagined.
Chef Anjana’s Proud Mama moment. Her son Anshuman was named Freshman of the Year by the University of Arkansas’s Engineering department. He’s already received a national Jack Cooke Kent Scholarship and is a Bodenhamer fellow.
We’re going to miss our sweet Steven, today is his last day. He started out as a Khana customer, then joined our team. Since then he’s been a steady, light-filled presence. We’ve been through so much - the constant recalibration required to last as a restaurant throughout the pandemic, and the joy of Steven becoming a US citizen in February 2020 (Belgium’s loss is America’s gain) Now he’s found love and is relocating to another state. All the best to you our friend, forever and always🤍
For the second year, Easter lives in memory. Last year, Khana was closed for a month and Easter Sunday came and went quietly. But this year embodies the spirit of everything Easter represents to me: life coming back after winter, and the reward of beauty for your patience with the process. We’re almost there. I promise that next year, when we won’t have to delay gathering, we will dye 1000 eggs and have the best Easter Party ever.
